Drug And Alcohol

Needless to say, drugs and alcohol can affect different people in differently and the reasons that people choose to use drugs and alcohol are also just as different.  One person can have one drink socially and be okay but then another person can have a drink and it can trigger a latent disease that he or she did not even know that they had.  Some individuals can use prescription or recreational drugs and alcohol without ever having to experience a negative consequence but then there are other people whose drug abuse addiction and or alcohol abuse can impact so many aspects of their lives from relationships, work, school, and even at home.

Again, people try alcohol and drugs for several different reasons.  A lot of people have their first experiment with drugs and alcohol out of curiosity, to fit in with their peers, or to just have a good time.  Some people try drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism, a way to alleviate stress, depression, and anxiety.  Initially, the use of alcohol or drugs does not lead to dependency.  Studies have shown that there is not necessarily a level of use that will shift casual use to something that is more problematic.  This is specific to the individual.  However addiction or abuse is not necessarily characterized by the frequency of an individuals drug or alcohol use and more with the consequences of their actions.  For instance, if a person’s use is causing problems in their lives, whether it be with family, friends, work, or even with the law, then it is likely that they have a problem.  Fortunately, people who have abuse or addiction problems do not have to suffer with this problem.  There is substance treatment available to all individuals who want it.  There are in-patient and out-patient facilities that are dedicated to addiction recovery and helping people who have addiction or abuse problems lead more fulfilling lives without depending on drugs and alcohol.  It goes without saying that a person who has a dependence on drugs or alcohol has to want treatment for themselves.  This ensures that the person will be committed to what can be a lifelong endeavor.
