I was wondering what drugs were being used for the treatment of heroin addiction. I just got intrigued because I’ve always thought that addicts just had to get off heroin (or whatever substance it is that they’re addicted to) and that that would be enough for them to get better.

I work out regularly and try to watch what I eat, and although I’m in pretty good shape, I’d love to drop 10 pounds. Unfortunately, it seems like diet and exercize just aren’t enough to maintain an excellent figure, especially at my age. Of course when you’re already in pretty good shape it’s much harder to lose weight than when you weigh 250 pounds. Yet I envy those with ultra slim bodies in spite of wondering whether they’re really any healthier than I am.
For example, I know a number of women who have that sleek physique I’m striving for who don’t really work out or watch what they eat but who seem to maintain their thin figure thanks to cigarette addiction or some sort of substance abuse. Likewise, many of the guys with the hardest abs and the largest biceps use steroids. (Not that I’m necessarily attracted to that Michelin Man muscle-bound look.) This makes me wonder what percentage of the beautiful people, especially those over 25/30, are really all that healthy. Any thoughts?

I think that in today’s society, the pressure to be slim, slender, and all other ways skinny is very high. i think that because of this, a lot of people DO try to eat right and exercise, just as you do, but they get frustrated when they find that they arent getting the results they want, because the media is telling them they should look even better than they do. when really, people who take care of their bodies (probably like yourself) look great, and shouldnt be comparing themselves TO the anorexic, drug-addicted celebrities that our body images our based on. i think that people probably end up going towards unhealthy habits as a last resort, because they become frustrated, but that actually its not good for your body in the long run.
just stick to your diet and exercise, and remember that you are doing a great job and im sure you look wonderful.

The Causes of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction

A different school of thought argues that the problem of addiction is a dual one, which comprises a mental and physical dependency on chemicals. The issue is further compounded by a pre-existing mental disorder that has to be treated in the first instance due to the fact that it is the primary cause.

Some people hold a different position, believing that dependency on a drug causes a âchemical imbalance’ in the neurological system. Accordingly, it must be treated psychotropic medication once the individual has gone through withdrawal.

The number of theories that exist about addiction and the cause of it shows that none of the scientific research can be deemed definitive. Based of average national figures, treatment for addiction leads to a 16% – 20% recovery rate, which shows that the theories are just that, theories. Accordingly, much more research needs to be undertaken to raise the national recovery rate to make it more impressive.

Out of the many, there is one theory that has proven to be the most accurate, which relates to the cycle of an addiction. The data that comes from the study can be universally applied despite the thought process used to explain the dependency on the substance. The addiction cycle usually commences with some type of issue or discomfort, such as a physical or emotional paint hat the individual finds difficult to deal with.

These problems can take many forms, such as severe shyness, physical injury like a broken bone or some other chronic physical condition. A persistent problem can be difficult for an individual to deal with, which can seem so intense that no relief can be found. Many of us will have some experience of this type of problem. Some individuals will find relief in using drugs or alcohol, despite the feeling only being temporary, which will become a solution to the problems suffered. This can be the reason why people return to drink or drugs again and again.

When an individual begins on this path of addiction, they will suffer physical, mental and lifestyle changes that causes negativity in their life. The continued use of drugs or alcohol will be ruinous if it goes unchecked. At any point that the individual is sober, they feel so miserable and depressed that they can do nothing else but numb the pain. This downward spiral of addiction can only result in three outcomes: sobriety, prison or death.

Drugs and alcohol have the ability to alter a person’s perception and eventually work their way into a person’s life without the victim even noticing. These substances can cause a great deal of problems for their users. Sometimes a person may start using on a casual basis and suddenly find he is using on a daily basis and just a stone’s throw away from full addiction.
Getting Alcohol Drug Rehab Treatments
Several types of alcohol drug rehab treatments are available and the kind of treatment administered depends on the type of addiction you want to treat. Detox is just the first step to an addict getting over his addiction. You can do very little in finding success just by going through a detox program. It is mainly for ridding your system of the drug or alcohol; it will not help you to overcome the other things that made you become an addict in the first place. Detox may be indicated to clean your system before beginning a more long-term program that will help you to overcome the addiction.
People who attend alcohol drug rehab facilities learn the tools they need to become drug-free and to stay that way forever. Rehabilitation focuses on abstinence and relapse prevention. Patients are given tools to help them change behaviors that made them turn to drugs or alcohol. For instance, avoiding old friends and habits that led them down the road to addiction in the beginning will help them to remain drug-free.
Relapse is never taught of as being a failure on the part of the addict but rather a mere slip. The manner of treatment has proven to be the most effective for alcoholics and drug addicts alike. It is hard to say just how many people succeed in their rehabilitation efforts but it is assumed that a person who is eager in his recovery and participates fully has the best chance of full recovery while using all of the tools he has learned to improve their lifestyles.
The length of the stay in an alcohol drug rehabilitation program is usually determined by the individual’s problems. Most patients gain the most success during treatment duration of at least three months. Once the person has completed his recovery program, he will gain more success by taking full advantage of after-care and out-patient programs designed to help them overcome their addiction. All of the tools given during alcohol drug rehab are integrated into the addict’s lifestyle allowing him to remain clean for the rest of his life.
